    WHAT WE DO - Management

Watershed Management

 

·  Implementing US EPA TAG for Lower Passaic River study of alternatives of removal of dioxin and other

   contaminants or capping the underwater sediment.

 

·  Developed open space conservation criteria for preservation of critical water resources.

 

·  Commented on combined sewer overflows (CSO) and attended all hearings by PVSC; likely PRC was

    the only commentator.

 

·  Reviewed the Highlands Council’s Water Supply Plan, and recommended a freeze on further

   development until an adequate water supply plan is developed.

 

·  Chairing Water Resources Advisory Committee.

 

·  Started US EPA study on Greenwood Lake natural resource improvement needs.

 

·  Started stump reduction in Greenwood Lake (GWL) treated 2,000 stumps. First sailing regatta held in

   15 years because of much safer lake.

 

·  West Milford (GWL) stormwater outfalls are being retrofitted to control non-point pollution.

Ground Water Protection

 

·  Revising state approved Well Head Protection Area Ordinance.

 

·  Secured grant for well head protection from private foundation matched by the 14 municipalities of

   Passaic Valley Groundwater Protection Committee.

Land Management

 

·  Purchased five quality sites in the Highlands or on the Passaic River in Morris and Passaic counties,

   bringing PRC Land Trust to ~900 acres in 5 counties and 33 locations. Six more properties are moving

   to closing.

 

·  Secured grants totaling $1.3 million for Passaic County and Morris County redevelopment projects, for

    example, Dowling Park in West Paterson, Passaic County and Historic Glenburn House in Riverdale,

    Morris County.

 

·  Overseeing implementation for City of Paterson of the restoration of parks above (Mary Ellen Kramer

   Park) and below the Great Falls State Park.

 

·  Prepared Open Space and Recreation Plans for Allendale Bergen County; Riverdale, & Hopatcong in

   Morris County; and West Paterson in Passaic County. We are working with Garfield and Lyndhurst,

   Bergen County on Passaic River Greenways where both Passaic River Coalition and municipalities own

   contiguous parcels.

 

·  Hold leadership position on Morris County Green Table.

 

·  Received grants from Morris County for properties in Butler and Denville.

Flood Management

 

·  Sent letter to selected legislators to include Blue Acres for buying out residences in flood plains to be

    included in Green Acres legislation. Currently $12 million is so dedicated. PRC is the only

    environmental organization working on Blue Acres.

Water Policy Leadership

 

·  Greenwood Lake Commission, New Jersey Chair. Secured federal funds for US EPA study of

   contaminants from Belcher’s Creek.

 

·  Vice-Chair, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Water Supply Advisory Council.

 

·  Appointed New Jersey Dept of Environmental Protection Drought Task Force.

 

·  Appointed New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection; Liaison, The Safe Drinking Water

   Institute and Liaison, Clean Water Council.
